Terasawa Buichi's Resume

1955 Born in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, March 30.Presently lives in Setagaya-ku, Tokyo. After Buichi Terasawa failed his college entrance exam, he found out that a comic that he had entered in a contest won a prize. He took this as his cue to enter the world of Manga. In 1976 he moved to Tokyo to be the apprentice of Osamu Tezuka.
1977 Becomes independent. Starts publication of Space Adventure Cobra in Weekly Jump.(Shueisya) Unprecedented in the manga world, Terasawa introduces his cyber character hero, Cobra. His hard boiled science fiction story line becomes explosively popular among teenagers and serial publication of the story continues for seven years. At present, over 20 million copies of the Cobra series have been sold.
1982 Animation for television series Space Cobra airs. Theater version produced.
1985 Black Knight BAT's color graphics start appearing on the front plate of Weekly Jump Magazine and become a huge topic of conversation. To make these color graphics, Buichi Terasawa buys a $10,000 computer with a PC-98 base and constructs the CG system himself. A creative explosion follows and the CG world starts to pay close attention to Buichi Terasawa
1986 Serial publication of Raven Kabuto begins in Shueisya's Weekly Fresh Jump
1987 Serial publication of Midnight Eye Goku begins in Scholar's Comic Burger
Dec: Buichi Terasawa establishes Terasawa Productions and serves as president on the board of directors
1988 Feb: Illustration Collection, Cobra Girls,released by Shueisya

Aug: Black Raven Kabuto is released in book form.(Shueisya)

Nov: Buichi Terasawa goes to Hong Kong on a research mission and his interest in manga artist Tony Won and Jackie Chan deepens.
1989 Jan: Original Video ofMidnight Eye Goku released. Production supervised by Yosiaki Kawajiri. Story Line,Terasawa Buichi and Ryuzyo Nakanisi

March: PC Engine software version of The Legend of the Holy Knight released by Hudson. Because of graphics faithful to the original pictures, real CD sound effects, true voices of excellent voice actor Yasuo Yamato and others, many industries paid attention this CD-ROM. The spread of CD-ROM drives in Japan is in part attributed to the The Legend of the Holy Knight. Because of the CD-Roms's great influence, Hudson was later able to strike out and be the pioneer of digital comics.

March: Black Knight Bat Deluxe version released by Scholar

May: Designed costumes for Ninja, an idol group managed by Johnny's Office

Served as a consultant for French animation film, Lune Lalu

July : NHK Satellite Broadcasting, televised series of Kabuto begins. Buichi Terasawa serves as a consultant for an animation feature commerical film . (Matushita Productions, commercial enterprise)
1991 Jan: Invited to attend the France Angouleme International Comics Salon as a representative of Japanese manga artists.Other guests included Masahi Tanaka, Taniguti Jirou, and Ei Goti. Continues round table discussion with Mebiusu, Tio, Zyodorofsky and other European authors

Feb: Appeared as a guest on Sankokusi 2 Tuyoku Naru Video

June: PC Engine CD-ROM Cobra, The Legendary Man, released by Hudson. Buichi Terasawa designed the concept, scenarios, and 3000 rough sketches for the CD-ROM. The previously released CD-ROM was improved upon and made into a volume of complete works. The music was composed by Yakabe Atunobo and actor Yamada Yasuo graciously supplied the voices for the characters again. The CD was incredibly popular, even in North America. Even though it was exhibited in its original Japanese version at an American comics convention, six Americans cleared the game and were incredibly enthused.

June: Illustration Collection Goku Moonlight Scope released. (Hudson)

6/30: Cobra television series, theater version video, and laser disc format decided. At the Invitation to Buichi Terasawa's World event, 1000 people were in attendance.

July: Attended the first ever in Japan SF Expo

August: Attended the San Diego Comics Convention. Digital Comic Cobra 2 is released

8/24: At the NEC Akihabara Building, was on the Talk Live with Mike Saenz and Joe Spark

8/12 Attends San Diego's Comics Convention. Original video animation Raven Kabuto movie continues

Aug: Attends Japan's SF Hamacon Expo

Summer: Raven Kabuto original sketch collection released. Space Adventure Cobra and Raven Kabuto T-shirts, bandanas and other original goods become available for sale.

Dialogue with Matthew Sweet: Space Adventure Cobra animation used for Matthew Sweet's CD single Girlfriend. (Song becomes #1 on California College Charts) Cobra jigsaw puzzle released by Yanoman. English version of Midnight Eye Goku released. (VIZ COMMUNICATIONS) Work for Mac Manga Exhibition CD-ROM begins
1993 Invited to Barcelona Comics Fair. Other participants included Riyoiti Ikegami, Masashi Tanaka, Hrio Marosuei, Ryuki Imada, and Riku Sanzyo

July: Invited to Hong Kong's Giant Book Fair Midnight Goku and Terasawa's Takeru published in Hong Kong
